Albert Hans, restaurant owner, dies
Albert J. Hans, 72, of 54118 Miami Road, died at 1:32 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack. Mr. Hans was the owner/operator of Hans Haus Restaurant and Ranita Grill.
He was born May 12, 1914, in Michigan City, and lived in South Bend most of his life.
On Feb. 27, 1931, in Rochester, he married Betty Fitch, who survives. Also surviving are a son, John P. of Edwardsburg; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma (Harry) Walter of South Bend; and a brother, Donald C. of Las Cruces, N.M.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Mr. Hans was a veteran of World War II; past president and director of the Indiana Restaurant Association; an adviser of 1st Source Bank Ewing Branch; a member of the Audubon Society, the Michiana Kiwanis Club, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 50; a member of the board of directors of South Gateway Improvement Association; and a member of many charitable and civic organizations.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Heart Association.
