Richard Thomas “Dick” Jones

Richard T. "Dick" Jones, 85, of Elkhart, died at home on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

He was born on October 8, 1938, in South Bend to the late Thomas F. and Frances L.(Maynard) Jones. Also preceding him in death are his sister, Betty Batalis and brother, Charles Jones.

On April 16, 1960, Dick married the former Louise F. Poorbaugh in Elkhart. She survives along with two daughters: Julia Jones and Cheryl (Jeff) Klingler, both of Elkhart; and Stephen (Marlene) Jones of Goshen; five grandchildren; Nowelle Hockabout, Jessica Klingler, Nolan Jones, McCartney Klingler and Taylor Kinney. Also surviving are nieces, Kristi (Matt) Hogrebe of Goshen and Jennine (Jeff) Failing of Winston-Salem, NC and nephews, Paul (Patty) Jones of Virginia Beach, VA and John and Doug Poorbaugh, both of Mishawaka.

Dick was a proud graduate of South Bend Central High School and served in the United States Navy. He owned and operated two used car lots known as Affordable Auto Sales prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge 718 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Temple in South Bend, Michiana Emmaus and the Starlight Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. He was very proud of his 42 years of membership in A.A. Dick was also a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Visitation for Dick will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 11 am until the hour of services at 1 pm, all at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tom DeFries will officiate and burial will be at a later date at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
