William "Paul" Moffett

South Bend – William "Paul" Moffett, 94, South Bend, IN passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Morningcrest Nursing and Memory Care. He was born November 12, 1916 in Evansville, IN, one of seven kids of Raleigh and Grace Moffett. When Paul was 12 he and his family moved to South Bend.
He graduated from South Bend Central HS in 1934 and Thomas Business School. Shortly after Paul married June Vermande of South Bend, IN in1942, he was drafted and spent three years serving in the Army in the South Pacific. As a decorated veteran of WWII he returned to work at South Bend Toy MFG and retired from there in 1983.
He and June were married 69 years. They had four children: Paul Michael Moffett, Jonathan Moffett, Becki Moffett-Moore and Peter Moffett. He is survived by his wife, three of his four children, nine grandchildren and two great grandsons and his sister Sarah Wallace. Paul was an active and longtime member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, where he was Clerk of Session for 42 years. In his younger years he was a member of Toast Masters. When his sons were young, Paul was active in Boy Scouts Troop 523. In his later years he was a dedicated member of the Clay Lions Club. Paul got to see his children's children's children. Who could ask for more? There will be tears and mourning. We thank God for the life that has been shared.
The Memorial Service is Saturday, February 26, at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 S. Frances St. South Bend, 46617 at 12 noon, with visitation before from 10:00am to Noon. Memorial contributions can be made in Paul's name to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
