Marjorie Grace (Fisher) Freshour

July 13, 1914 - March 14, 2006

Marjorie Grace Freshour, 91, residing on Hawthorne Drive, South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at home. Mrs. Freshour was employed with Northern Indiana State Children's Hospital and Developmental Disability Center for 25 years, retiring in 1979. She was born on July 13, 1914, in Lakeville, IN, to Jesse and Jennie (Garrett) Fisher, and was a lifelong resident.

On May 29, 1931, in South Bend, IN, she married Paul W. Freshour Sr. Rev. Waldemon Goffeney of Zion United Church of Christ officiated.

Mrs. Freshour is survived by two daughters, Betty Freshour Perkey and Nancy Freshour, both of South Bend; one son, Paul W. (Barbara) Freshour II of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Susan, Robert, Mark (Steve), Beth Ann (Jim), Dennis (Jody), Mike (Debra), Ricky (Janet), Joey (BJ) and David; 18 great-grandchildren, Amy, David, Jami, Ashley, Paul, Jeremy, Matthew, Jennifer, Shelly, Jason, Ryan, Courtney, Brooke, Gary, David, Russ Jr., Brandon and Taylor; 15 great-great-grandchildren, Cory, Brock, Tanner, Taylor, Gabrielle, Adonnika, Acacia, Alyjah, Dylan, Caleb, Bailey, Casey, Camden, Cassidy and Michael Dylan; one sister, Frances Danilowicz of South Bend; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Freshour was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Freshour Sr.; daughter, Shirley Bentzler; son-in-law, Robert Perkey; three grandchildren, Sandra Perkey, Linda Marie Bentzler and Russell Bentzler; twin great-great-granddaughters, Alexa and Victoria Sheets; sister, Dorothy Titus; and by a special aunt, Mary Houston.

She loved working for the mentally handicapped and received recognition for outstanding service to the mentally handicapped members of our community. Jim W. and David I., two of her special boys, recently visited with her at her home. Her family at NISCH meant a great deal to her. Marjorie attended eight years at Pleasant View School, which then became the Country Bake Shop on the corner of U.S. 31 and Osborne Road, and then continued on to Central High School. Mrs. Freshour was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, South Bend, for many years. Her dog, Mindy, was always by her side. She greatly enjoyed flowers and gardening.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. James B. Miller, pastor of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. today in the funeral home.
