Lyndal Eakin Fox, 83, beloved Husband, Father, Grandad, Uncle, Teacher, Guidance Counselor, United States army veteran, and Mason, passed away at 3:00 am on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, in Granger, Indiana.

Lyndal was born on August 28, 1938, in Peterburg-Courtney, Oklahoma, to the late Robert and Doris (Eakin) Fox.
Lyndal was also proceeded in death by his grandparents, W.E. and Lorinda (Bourland) Eakin and Clara (McCarty) and Luther Fox; and a sister, Malacha (Fox) Martin.

On August 6, 1963, in Caddo, Oklahoma, Lyndal married Joan (Parker). She survives along with their two sons, Joel (Jennifer) Fox of Roebuck, South Carolina, and Andrew (Jenny) Fox of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Andrew "Drew" Robert Fox and Ava Ruth Fox; nieces, Wendy Kaess and Kim Brush; and nephews, Russell Martin, Daniel Martin, James Martin, and Brad Simpson.

Lyndal graduated from Ringling High School (OK) in 1956, and Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1960. He received a master's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1966. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, while stationed in San Antionio, TX. He taught English at Lone Grove High School (OK). After moving to South Bend, he was a teacher and guidance counselor at many South Bend Community Schools (SBCS) including Jefferson Middle School, Dickinson Middle School, Central High School, and John Adams High School. He also taught the SBCSC Adult Education government courses for many years.

Lyndal was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where he was an usher captain, longtime delegate to the annual conferences, as well as numerous other committees. He was a supporter of the Broadway Christian Parish in its Ministry and Food Pantry. He served on the St. Joseph County Scholarship Foundation for over 20 years, as Chair of the Awards Committee and also as Vice President. He was an active member of the St. Joseph Valley Notre Dame Alumni Club, working with the selection process of the club's scholarship winners, as well as the Blue-Gold game. He was a founding member of the Native American Alumni Board at Notre Dame and served two terms. He was also a member of the Sorin Society at the University, and the Rink Scholarship Committee at Notre Dame.

Later in life, Lyndal served on the John Adams High School Alumni Board as an honorary member. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #25 in Lone Grove, Oklahoma. He was also a member of The National Federation of Teachers and its state and local affiliates and served as an officer in the local and state organizations. He was also a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Lyndal was also a proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, of which his grandmother was an original enrollee.

The family would like to thank the staffs of StoryPoint, Michiana Hematology & Oncology, and the St. Joe Hospital Infusion Lab for their loving care and support.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood, if you are able. Lyndal was a lifelong donor at the South Bend Medical Foundation and received numerous blood infusions the past few years as he battled cancer.

Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 2, 2022, in Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 11:00 am Thursday at the Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic service, followed by a religious service. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery with a military service.
