Gerard A. VanRent

Gerard VanRent, 69, of Wheatfield Drive, passed away at 3:23 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. VanRent was born on July 29, 1928, in Mishawaka, Ind., to August and Cyriel Van-Renterghem, both of whom preceded him in death.
Mr. VanRent had lived in Madison, Wis., for five years, St. Louis, Mo., for 11 years, Peoria, Ill., for a year, but had lived the majority of his life in South Bend, Ind.
He retired on Sept. 1, 1983, after 37 years with PPG Industries, and retired on Aug. 1, 1990, after seven years with Niles Glass Works.
On June 9, 1951, in South Bend, he married Dorothy J. Wozniak, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Catherine (Rick) Noto of Collierville, Tenn., Sharon (Rob) Salata of Bowling Green, Ky.; and by one grandson, Alexander J. Salata.
Mr. VanRent was a 1946 graduate of Central High School. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, the BK Club in Mishawaka, and was a Korean veteran. Mr. VanRent was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors and outdoor sports.
