John Calvin Nelson

SOUTH BEND - John Calvin Nelson, 83, of South Bend, IN passed away at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He worked for Drewry's for 27 years; South Bend Lathe; and at Logan's Children's Hospital (NISCH) in the kitchen. He was born on June 16, 1924, in Boonville, MO to Harrey and Mary (Ross) Nelson.

On February 25, 1950, in South Bend, IN he married Mary Ann (Giantomaso) Nelson, who preceded him in death on March 31, 1997. Mr. Nelson is survived by his two sons, John (Melody) Nelson of South Bend and Patrick (Lisa) Nelson of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Ian (Julie) Nelson, Graham Nelson, Emily Nelson and Kyleigh Nelson; and one great-grandson, Anthony Nelson.

His sisters, Mildred, Laura and Mary Jane; and brothers, Joseph and William all preceded him in death.

Mr. Nelson was very involved in coaching. He coached for many years for Northside Little League and played softball with Drewry's while working there. He was a golden glove boxer and graduated from Central High School, South Bend.
