SOUTH BEND - Walter J. Boal, 87, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, at his residence. He was born February 15, 1925, in St. Charles, Illinois, to Walter H. & Margaret F. (Reichart) Boal.

On April 27, 1946, Walter married Elizabeth M. Byrd, who survives along with their children: sons, James (Pamela) Boal of New Carlisle, IN, Richard and Kevin Boal of South Bend, IN, and daughter, Jean (O.C.) Rogers of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Paul (JoAnn), Wayne, Rich (Lisa), Eric and Chet Boal, Christina (James Allen) Fisher, Shawn and Adam (Amy) Rogers; & many great-grandchildren.

Walter's sister, Marge Boal, preceded him in death.

He served as a member of the armed forces during World War II in the European Theatre. Walter was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and attended South Bend Central High School. He and his wife loved to travel and spent their winters in Florida. Walter was an owner/operator of Boal Sanitation Service where he served the west side community for many years. He also served many years as sexton of Sacred Heart Cemetery.
