Hazel C. Bancroft

Mrs. Hazel C. Bancroft, 95, of Birmingham, Mich., and formerly of Mishawaka, died at 6:35 a.m. Friday in William Baumont Hospital, Royal Oaks, Mich., following a two-day illness. She was born on June 27, 1886, in St. Joseph County, and lived in this area until 1971, when she moved to Birmingham from Mishawaka. As Hazel Zeller she married George A. Bancroft, who died Jan. 23, 1973. She was a retired teacher with the South Bend Community School Corp.
Surviving are two sons, William G. Bancroft of Sidney, Ohio, and Robert Z. Bancroft of White Bear Lake, Minn.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard M. (Martha) Steele of Birmingham; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard H. Zeller of San Francisco.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Phillips B. Smith, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Osceola Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Everett Ballard Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until services Tuesday in the chapel. Mrs. Bancroft was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the first president of its Women's Society.
