Dr. Leighton Pine Allen, who practiced In Oshkosh for forty years, passed away at Mercy hospital at 12 o'clock midnight Sunday at the age of 62 years. Death was attributed to complications following an operation.

Although Doctor Allen had been in poor health for nearly two years, members of the family stated today that death was unexpected. The physician was taken to the hospital Friday, June 14, and underwent an operation Monday, June 17.

Doctor Allen had been active in his practice as oculist and aurist up to the time he was taken to the hospital. He resided at 65 Franklin avenue.

He was born July 11, 1866, at Newark. N. J. He accompanied his parents to South Bend, Ind., when he was still a boy and received his elementary public-school training at that place. In the year 1885 he was graduated from the high school at South Bend and immediately went to Ann Arbor, Mich., to attend the medical school at the university of Michigan.

BEGAN HERE IN 1889. He began the practice of medicine In Oshkosh. Nov. 17, 1889, and followed the work of a general practitioner for several years. In 1891 Doctor Allen took a post graduate course In the Chicago Polyclinic institute and in 1896 finished an advanced course in the New York Ophthalmic and Aural institute.

During the course of his professional career, he was assistant surgeon and afterwards oculist and aurist at the Maple Lodge sanitarium, a former prominent institute of this city. In 1904 he was oculist and aurist at St. Mary's hospital of this city.

When Doctor Allen first came up Oshkosh, he assisted Dr. Charles W. Oviatt in his practice. He first followed a general practice later specializing in eye, ear, nose and throat diseases after his post graduate study.

WED HERE IN 1903. April 15, 1903 he was united in marriage to Miss Fannie Ideson of this city, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Idesen. His wife survives him. He is also survived by a son, John I Allen of this city: a sister, Mrs. Carrie Allen Johnson of Bogata, N.J.. and an aunt, Miss Jane E. Allen of Newark. N. J.

Doctor Allen was identified with many medical associations, being a member of the American Medical Society, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Winnebago County Medical society, the Wisconsin State Medical society and the Fox River Valley Medical society. At the time of his death he was president of the Milwaukee Oto- Ophthalmlc society.

He was a charter member of the J Oshkosh lodge of Elks, having been a member of the first class of five initiates.

The funeral arrangements are to be announced later.
