April 12, 1936 ~ November 1, 2024 (age 88)
Marie M. Stefaniak, 88 years old, peacefully passed away on November 1, 2024 surrounded by her family at Center for Hospice Care Raclin House in Mishawaka, IN.
Marie was born on April 12, 1936 in South Bend, IN to the late Stanley G and Florence (Babicz) Leszczynski. On February 11, 1956, Marie married the love of her life of 61 years, Walter A Stefaniak, who preceded her in death in 2017. Marie is also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Leszczynski(Evelyn), John Leszczynski, Stanley D. Leszczynski(Claudette), sisters, Louise Janowiak(Richard), Lucy Gadacz(Sal) and brother-in-law, Chester Gadacz.
Left to cherish their memories, Marie is survived by her sons, Rick (Claire) Stefaniak and Tom Stefaniak, grandsons, Bradley (Taylor) Stefaniak, Patrick Stefaniak and Scott Stefaniak; sister, Evelyn Gadacz; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hock and Rita Leszczynski. She is also survived by her best friend, Alice Toth. Spending time with her was very precious to her.
Marie was a graduate of South Bend Central. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. Marie loved to play cards. She was a member of a Card Club and loved to play Euchre, Rummy, and Solitaire as well as Bingo. She had many special moments through-out life with her sister Evelyn and they have been together as well as neighbors at North Woods Village still enjoying time together where you could always find them together with other friends in a card game. Above all she loved Her husband, Walter, and her family. One of her favorite memories was her 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by her family. She also loved all of her family gatherings - especially Christmas, Thanksgiving, and 4th of July.
Family would like to thank the staff of Sanctuary at St. Paul's, North Woods Village, and Center For Hospice Raclin House for their exceptional care of Marie.
Visitation for Marie will be from 3:00pm-7:00pm Thursday, November 7, 2024 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd, South Bend, with a Rosary to be prayed at 4:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Friday, November 8, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd, South Bend, with a visitation starting one hour prior at 9:00am at the funeral home. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend.
