Helen A. Hensel

Helen A. Hensel, 97, of Park Jefferson Apartments, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Friday, March 26, in Countryside Place Nursing Home, Mishawaka, Ind. Mrs. Hensel was born on Dec. 10, 1901, in South Bend, to the late Frank J. and Carrie (Houser) Fischer, and had been a lifelong resident of this community.

On April 6, 1923, in South Bend, as Helen Fischer, she married Edward I. Hensel, who passed away in June 1977.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty Guyton and Lois Zeller, both of Mishawaka, and Janice Mattox of South Bend. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hensel was a 1919 graduate of South Bend Central High School, and was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. 

Memorial services for Mrs. Hensel will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. David Doane, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Cremation will take place with burial in Highland Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. The Hensel Family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be offered to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 707 Sherman Street, South Bend, IN 46616.
