In Memory
David Lee Radziwill
David Lee Radziwill, a lifelong resident of South Bend, IN, passed away on Saturday, October 19 at Memorial Hospital after a long illness surrounded by loving family. He was 75.
Dave is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Cherrie (Lemke). October 24 would have been their 54th wedding anniversary. Dave was a quick-witted and proud dad to his two daughters, Courtney Sharp (David) of Lafayette, IN and Jessica Zych (Rhett) of South Bend. He loved and was happy to brag about his 6 grandchildren: Kenzie, Lauren, Evan and Mallory Sharp and Henry and Samantha Zych. He will also be missed by his diverse circle of close friends and neighbors that he was always on board to meet up with at a local bar or pub for a dinner and a few beers. His familiar phrase, “let me tell you a little story about that…”, you knew you’d be there for some time laughing—better grab a cold one.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Clara Radziwil, of South Bend. His two sisters Barbara Paczkowski and Marcia Parrish, and sister-in-laws Valerie (Richard) Kruk and Judy McCormick survive.
Dave graduated from Central High School in 1967. He worked for LaSalle Body Shop, downtown South Bend for many years followed by employment at A.M. General Corporation beginning in 1982. Dave’s exemplary work ethic and dedication to his coworkers led him to 30 years of service and a much deserved and celebrated retirement in 2011.
Dave spent his retirement doing the things he loved. He and Cherrie enjoyed fishing, and frequenting regional garden centers, antique shops and fairs, always on the lookout for additions to his many collections. Dave was also a talented woodworker and craftsman-leaving his family many items to cherish forever. Perhaps what he relished most of all was spending time outside in his yard. Dave’s meticulous attention to detail led him to become an expert at landscape design and groundskeeping of his home. Dave enjoyed cooking, watching a variety of tv shows, reading and listening to classic blues. Above all else, Dave eagerly awaited visits with his family who will miss him (and his sense of humor) very much.
There will be no funeral service at Dave’s request. A gathering to remember Dave will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your preferred charity.
