Nettie Witwer

Mrs. Clem Witwer, formerly Miss Nettie Walworth, widow of Clem Witwer, also formerly of South Bend, Passed away Wednesday in her home, 311 Third Ave., Joliet, Ill., following a long period of ill health. Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Saturday. Burial Will take place in Elmhurst cemetery, Joliet. Mrs. Witwer was born June 22, 1860, in South Bend, a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. M. N. Walworth, who resided at West Wayne street. They passed away many years ago. Mr. Walworth was a well known lu... manufacturer in business in the 1870s and 1880s at the south corner of Monroe and Will... Streets."
Surviving Mrs. Witwer are a sister, Miss Mary Walworth, formerly of South Bend who has resided with Mrs. Witwer for several years; a stepson, William (sic - Andrew) Witwer, of Joliet; two nieces, M.. Mary Hyatt and Mrs. H...Steele, and a nephew, John Walworth of Chicago. Mrs. Witwer was graduated from the South Bend High School class of 1880. Later she taught in the public schools, serving several years as principal of the Washington school when it was located in the High school building on West Washington avenue.(My copy of the obituary is unreadable in some areas)

"DEATH CLAIMS NETTIE WITWER
Mrs. Nettie Witwer, a resident of Joliet 36 years, and widow of Clement S. Witwer, owner of the former Joliet Manufacturing company, manufacturers of corn-shellers, died yesterday in her home, 211 Third avenue, following a long illness.
Surviving her are a step-son, Andrew S. Witwer; a grandson, and a sister, Miss Mary L. Walworth."
