Mary E. (Colpitts) Samuels

Sept. 19, 1926- June 21, 2005

Mary Elizabeth Samuels, 78, residing on Pulling Street, South Bend, passed away peacefully at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. She was born September 19, 1926, in South Bend, and had remained a lifelong resident of this area.

On February 14, 1947, in South Bend, as Mary E. Colpitts, she married Francis Samuels. Together they enjoyed 50 years of marriage until his passing on August 1 , 1 997. She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas F. Samuels on March 8, 2003; a grandson, Robert Glen Samuels on Oct. 6, 1978; a sister, Mae Raybuck; and five brothers, James Colpitts, Robert Colpitts, Rev. Hunter Colpitts, William Colpitts and Richard Colpitts.

Mrs. Samuels is survived by her daughter, Lori S. and Christopher Sobieralski of South Bend; three sons, John F. Samuels of Elkhart, Richard C. and Chris Samuels, and Robert G. and Carol Samuels, both of South Bend; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Samuels retired from the University of Notre Dame Food Services Dept. following eight years of service. She had previously been employed for 23 years with Cook's Dept. Store. She was a member of First Brethren Church of South Bend; Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 360, Mishawaka; and was a 1943 graduate of Central High School.

Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23, in Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Larry Baker; and Rev. Brian Baughman will officiate. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday (today) in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to First Brethren Church, 4909 So.
