Margaret Mary Bergan

Miss Margaret Mary Bergan, 72, of 828 E. Colfax, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after a brief illness. She taught English, Latin and literature for 37 years at Central High School and two years at Jackson High School, retiring in June 1972.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1910, in South Bend and was a lifetime area resident. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Larry (Mary) Mullins of Tamarack, Fla.; and a brother, Dr. Joseph A. Bergan of Michigan City.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul F. Doyle, C.S.C., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the McGann Funeral Home, where the Altar Society will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
She was a member of the church, the Altar Society, Harvest House, St. Theresa's Mission Society, Circle of Mercy, Christ Child Society, AAUW, National Art Association, Indiana and St. Joseph County Retired Teachers Associations, South Bend Alumni of St. Mary's College and the University Club of Notre Dame. She graduated in 1932 from St. Mary's College and did postgraduate work at Northwestern University.
