Private Edwin J. Stachowski

Private Edwin J. Stachowski was killed in action in France on July 2, 1944, according to word received Sunday his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joby Stachowski, 1119 West Ford seph street. came on his mother's birthday. He wrote his letter home when he landed last in of June 23.

Private Stachowski was drafted November, 1942, and after in training at Camp Atterbury, Ind., and Camp Breckenridge, Ky., was was sent to England last April. He born in South Bend, May 29,1905, graduated from St. Casimir's parochial school, in 1918 and attended Central High school for three years. He had been employed at the Bendix Aviation corporation prior to induction. He had been active in the Young People's Progress club, of St. Casimir's parish.

On June 30, 1936, he was married to Miss Bertha Van Wynsberghe, who survives. Also surviving are a son, James Joseph, six; two sisters, Miss Dorothy Stachowski and Mrs. Henrietta Thompson, all of South Bend, and two brothers, Sylvester Stachowski, of South Bend and Harry Stachowski, of Detroit, Mich.

A memorial mass for the repose of his soul will be said soon in the St. Casimir's church.
