W. Earle Straw - Class Of 1920 VIEW PROFILE

W. Earle Straw

W. Earle Straw, 74, of 2817 Ewing, Mishawaka, died at 9:05 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital after a six-month illness. He was area construction engineer for the Standard Oil Co., retiring in 1966 after 44 years service.

He was born Oct. 25, 1901, in Constantine and had lived in South Bend since 1916 coming here from Constantine. On Oct. 16, 1926, in 1 Mishawaka, he married Irene Calvert, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Miss Barbara Straw of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and a nephew Richard Straw of South Bend.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William, with Rev. Daniel W. Fowler, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Straw was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and usher, South Bend Lodge No. 294 F&AM, Scottish Rite of South Bend, Orak Shrine Temple of Hammond, the Isaak Walton League and the Notre Dame Alumni Assoe ciation. He was a graduate of the former Central High School and attended Notre Dame and Northwestern universities.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society
