Dolly Mae (McCurdy) Smith

Feb. 28, 1932 - June 6, 2005

Ms. Dolly Mae Smith, 73, a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who resided on South Kenmore Street, South Bend, Indiana, passed away surrounded by her loving daughters at 1:25 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2005, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County.

Dolly was born on February 28, 1932, in South Bend, Indiana, to the union of Walter and Elizabeth (Dennis) McCurdy, who both preceded her in death. She graduated from South Bend Central High School. She worked five years at Healthwin Hospital and five years at Carlisle Nursing Home, then after 22 years of service as a certified nursing assistant with Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center she retired in 1995. Dolly was a Jehovah Witness with the Chain of Lakes congregation. She loved fishing and sewing quilts as a hobby. Serving Jehovah and spending time with her family were the things she loved the most.

Dolly leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Asantewaa Odinga (Linda Smith) of Carbondale, III., and Annette Norman of Flint, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Maurice Cogdell of Chicago, Illinois, Tony Cogdell, Wendy (Kevin) Railing, Paula Boyd and Paul Boyd, all of South Bend, Jimmy (Sheila) Donaldson of Elkhart, Indiana, and Ivan (Toya) Norman of Coronado Island, California; nine greatgrandchildren, Amaiere, Teshia, Chloe, Javon, Andre, Keila Rodney, Michael and Aylanna; her former husband, Aaron Smith; a dear friend, Mr. Hazel Thronton; and her pet cat, Maisy; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Her parents, Walter and Elizabeth McCurdy, a son Phillip Smith, and a granddaughter, Dionne Marie Griffin, all preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2005, in Alford's Mortuary, with burial following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Visitation will occur one hour prior to services in the chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary
