In Memory
Dorothy "Doris" Jean Payne
February 1, 1955 ~ February 9, 2024 (age 69)
Dorothy (Doris) Jean Payne, 69 went home to be with the Lord February 9, 2024, at Memorial Hospital South Bend, IN with family by her side. Dorothy was born to the union of Willie, Sr. and Gertrude Payne in Forrest City, Arkansas on February 2, 1955.
In 1966 Dorothy and her family moved to South Bend, Indiana where her parents raised 5 wonderful children. Dorothy attended Central High School.
Dorothy was a very active member of her church until her death. She first became a member of Miracle Temple C.O.G.I.C for many years where she was very active. Dorothy found Choir robes and didn't have to pay a penny for them God was moving then little did she know. After meeting the Lovely Pastor Brooks who she adored and loved dearly and joining Holiness Church of God New Journey where she was a member until her death. Dorothy worked at Zikers cleaners and Monarch for many years. Dorothy was a very loving daughter, sister, mother and friend to those who knew her. She was a true Black Stallion (her father would say). This is a hard one to swallow today as we lay you to rest dear mother. This was so unexpected, but we know that GOD doesn't make mistakes and he will get the Glory. While this isn't our permanent home Mother you surely will be missed. Dorothy worked so hard, and she was so proud at how far she came, and she was so excited to see what more God had in stored for her. I have no doubt our mother is sitting high smiling like the diamond she became Dorothy "Doris" Dijean" Di" Payne you will be missed tremendously.
She leaves to cherish her memories (3) daughters Almika (Payne) Jenkins, Monicha (Shawn)Payne and Starla Payne all of South Bend, IN. (2) brothers Willie Payne, Jr of Detroit, Ml and Timothy Payne of Arizona (2) sisters Delores Butler and Maxine Buggs both of South Bend with 10 grandkids and 10 great grandkids a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
