In Memory
William (Billy) Eckstine Lottie
March 11, 1952 ~ September 15, 2025
William Eckstine Lottie, 73, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his home on September 15, 2025. Born on March 11, 1952, to RD Sr and Goldie Lottie. William lived a life full of passion, service, and deep love for his family and community.
He was a distinguished Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War, receiving numerous medals and commendations. William worked as a self-employed house painter until his retirement in 2005 due to disabilities incurred during his combat service.
His creativity and love for music led him to host “The Jazz Club,” a cherished gathering place for jazz enthusiasts to share their favorite tunes and preserve the rich history of the genre.
William proudly served as the president of the South Bend Chapter of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club. He immersed himself in the legacy of the 9th and 10th Cavalry, dedicating his time and energy to serving the communities they touched. He took great pride in wearing the colors of the Buffalo Soldiers and was a die-hard Harley Davidson rider, finding freedom and joy on the open road.
Above all, William’s greatest joy—and self-proclaimed weakness—was being a grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and lived to fulfill their every request, finding purpose and happiness in their laughter and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, RD Sr and Goldie Lottie, and a younger brother George Bernard. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Debra Stanley-Lottie; his son, Shawn Lottie; and four bonus children: Steven, Anthony, Rashida, and Kamilah. He is also survived by his siblings: RD Jr (Cynthia) Lottie, Gloria (Gwendolyn) Lottie-Lacy, Harvey (Jamie) Lottie, and Julianna Lottie. Missing him will be his 9 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at New Salem Baptist Church, located at 141 Camden Street, South Bend, IN 46619. Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
William will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, music, service, and family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
