Barbara Kantzer Gaa

SOUTH BEND - Barbara Kantrer Gaa, 92, of Chandler, AZ, formerly of South Bend, died Wednesday in Chandler Healthcare Center. Mrs. Gaa retired in 1966 as a teacher at the former South Bend Central High School. She was born March 2, 1899, in McZena, Ohio.
On July 10, 1977, as Barbara Kantzer, she married Donald C. Gaa. He died Nov. 16, 1988. She is survived by two nieces, Ana Cosgrove of Bucyrus, Ohio, arid Barbara A. Bergerson of Sun Lakes, AZ; and a nephew, Dr. John Frederick Kantzer of Glenwood, MO.
She was a former director for the Presbyterian Players and active in the former Black Box Theater in South Bend, was a former member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was organist and choir director for 31 years, was a member of National Teachers Association, South Bend Symphony Board, Civic Music Association Board, and was voted Woman of the Year in 1971. She was a graduate of Ohio State University and Eastman School of Music.
Memorial services will be at 1 p m. Saturday, Jan. 18, in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 707 Sherman Ave. Wise Funeral Home, Bucyrua, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or CARE
