Ruth M. (Smith) Johnson

Ruth M. Johnson, 73, of Elkhart, Ind., formerly of Edwards, Mich., passed away after a long illness at 9:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born on March 21, 1924, in South Bend, Ind., to Frank and Ruth (Rohland) Smith. She graduated from Central High School in South Bend with the class of 1942.

On Aug. 14, 1942, in South Bend, she married John R. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, John R.; a son, John A. (Susan M.) Johnson of Romeoville, IL., four grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson of Joliet, III., Nicholas Johnson of Romeoville, Richard Wegrzyn of Huntingburg, Ind., and Laurie Schlachter of Bristow, Ind.; a great-grandson, Matthew Schlachter of Bristow; and by a niece, Linda White of Niles, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia M. Hurm; and by a sister, Arbutus M. Molar.

Mrs. Johnson worked for Sears for 28 years, 14 of those years in Joliet, Ill., and 14 in Los Angeles, Calif.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Ind. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home, and burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
