James H. Crawford Jr.
Jan. 23, 1925 — Dec. 23, 2004

Mr. James Hamilton Crawford Jr., 79, departed this life on Thursday, December 23, 2004, due to natural causes. He was born January 23, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the parents of James H. Crawford Sr. and Virginia Jackson, who both preceded him in death. In 1940, he moved to South Bend and attended Central High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and defended his country during World War II. James was honorably discharged after the war and was employed by Studebaker Company until they closed. He retired from Elkhart Brass, Inc., after 30 years as a foundry foreman, where he also served as the union steward.

In 1947, he married Fannie B. Wilson and from that union they shared four children, Douglas Wilson of Carlton, Texas, Brenda (Dubois) Doxie, Donnie Jo Harris, both of New Castle, Delaware and Terrance R. Crawford, who preceded him in death. James met Linda L. Peterson, who preceded him in death, whom he dearly loved and shared a life long partnership with. From that union James leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Lovell R. Peterson; four daughters, Robin Y. Richmond, Bonita M. (Bruce) Scruggs, Carlita V. (Alvin Sr.) Crawford Jefferies and Reba Crawford; three grandchildren whom he was a loving father to, Ashley N. Crawford, Carrie V. Crawford and James L. Crawford, all of South Bend; 20 more grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Andrew Galloway Sr.; along with a host of other family and friends.

Services were held at 12 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2004, in New Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation was one hour prior to services In the church. Arrangements have been entrusted with ALFORD'S MORTUARY.
