Mrs. Pattie Nicks, a resident of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the age of 87.

Pattie was born in Big Bee Valley, Mississippi on September 9, 1935, to the union of Eddie James and Idella Tate.

Pattie moved from Birmingham, Alabama to South Bend, Indiana at the age of nine with her mother.  In her youth attended Greater St. John Baptist church with her mother, aunts, and uncles. She attended Oliver Elementary School and Central High School.  After high school, Pattie spent her time raising her children.  Her employment included The Flamingo, Perry’s Pharmacy and King Fish.  On December 25, 1963, she and William T. Nicks were married.  After retirement, Pattie Nicks enjoyed gardening, playing poker, going to the casinos, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  She loved watching western movies and TV shows.  She loved all types of animals.  Also, she enjoyed dancing and if you know the dance she did then, you know what we’re talking about. She was a sport fanatic and loved attending her grand children’s sport events. In her spare time, she would travel with her loved ones.  Pattie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Mrs. Nicks leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Jacalyn D. Tate of South Bend, Indiana, and Pattie A. Nicks of Mishawaka, Indiana; sons, James D. (Juli) Tate of South Bend, Indiana, and Eugene Haire of Tacoma, Washington; nine grandchildren, Tameka Griffin of Houston, Texas, Sharlonda Haire of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Martisha (Sam) Wright and Pattie N. Linton. both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Brenda (Will) Winston of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Edward A. Tate of Arlington, Texas, James Williams, James J. Tate and Alexis C. Tate, all of South Bend, Indiana; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; along with honorary grandson Charles (Booke) Harrison of South Bend, Indiana.

Pattie was preceded in death by her parents, Idella and Edward James Tate, her husband, William T. Nicks, and her daughter, Valerie A. Nicks-Goodrich.

Services for Mrs. Pattie Nicks will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Alford’s Mortuary with visitation at 11:00 a.m.  Alford’s Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.  To leave an online condolence please visit our webpage and sign the guest book at www.alfordsmortuaryinc.com.
