ORA L. (WASHINGTON) BROADNAX

Dec. 28, 1939 - Jan. 10, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Ora Lee Broadnax, 69, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009, in her daughter's home after a long illness. Ora was born on December 28, 1939, in Memphis, TN, to James and Viola Washington, who both preceded her in death.

Ora attended Central High School.

On February 2, 1963, she united in Holy Matrimony to Willie Broadnax, who also preceded her in death in July 1996.

Ora Lee worked as a machinist for many years at Torrington and later for Uniroyal. In her golden years she went to work with Catholic Charities and served on the Election Board for the past 12 years. Ora was a beloved member of Mount Carmel Church in South Bend, Indiana. Also, she was a member of the Eastern Star and the Elks. Aunt Ora loved life and was a huge Notre Dame and football fan.

Survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Tear-Sa Broadnax; a very special granddaughter, Anyjah Perkins; two sisters, Jessie Lee Broadnax and JoAnn (Jerry) Newhouse; and two brothers, Willie "Bill" Washington and Oscar Postell, all of South Bend, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews and numerous loved ones and friends. She is also survived by a special friend, Anell Cunningham of Okoloa, MS.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Vanilla Dixson, Geraldene Washington and Clyde Walter Washington.

Funeral services for Mrs. Broadnax will be held at noon on Friday, January 16, in Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Indiana Avenue, South Bend. Friends may call one hour prior to the services in the church.
