Lurlene E. (Peck) Whiting

EDWARDSBURG - Lurlene E. Whiting, 87, formerly of Edwardsburg and Niles, but recently of Angola, IN, passed to her rest on Sunday, April 24, 2011, in the Northern Lakes Nursing Home, Angola, after a brief illness. Lurlene was born Jan. 17, 1924, in South Bend, the daughter of Lloyd and Blanche (Koplinger) Peck, and graduated from South Bend Central High School.

She moved to Edwardsburg in 1970 from Niles before going to Angola in 2006. She was married April 25, 1941 in Niles, to Jess Gerald "Jerry" Whiting, who passed away Aug. 13, 1996.

She is survived by her children, Sandra (Dennis) Campbell of Henderson, NC, Barbara (Jack) Preston of Angola and Patrick (Betty) Whiting of Niles. She has eight loving grandchildren, Dana Edwards, Bob Day, Jess Preston, Brandie Fish, Nicole Berry, Danielle Guernsey, Patrick Preston and Kim Walker. There are 17 great-grandchildren. She also has a sister, Betty Deo of Oscoela, and a sister-in-law, Pat Pace.

Members of the family who have passed besides her husband, Jerry, are her parents, four sisters, Irma Hewson, Irene Milion, Dorothy Howacki and Helen Herreman, and three brothers, James, Clarence and Delbert Peck.

Friends and family may gather in the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral home, Edwardsburg, today from 6 to 8 p.m. The Mass of Christina Burial will be Thursday, April 28, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US12 East, Edwardsburg, where friends and family may gather from 10 to the 11 a.m. service time. Burial will follow at Edwardsburg Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jerry. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
