Ronald K Town - Class Of 1947 VIEW PROFILE

RONALD K. TOWN

Oct. 8, 1929 - April 26, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Ronald K. Town, 78, died suddenly this past Saturday afternoon. On October 8, 1929, Ron was born to Forbes and Kathleen (Searles) Town of River Park, IN. He had lived his entire life in the South Bend area.

He graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1947.

And on July 5, 1951, he married the love of his life, Betty June (Lewis) Town, who preceded him in death in 2005. He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Alan (Lisa) Town; his brother, Forbes Town of Millersburg; and his sister, Mary Beth Town of Plymouth. A sister, Audrey Town, preceded him in death during childhood.

Ron was first and foremost, a devoted and loving husband. He was also a wonderful role model for his son. He was a kind, gentle and caring man of great humility. His love for family made a daughter-"In-Law" feel more like one of his own. He will be greatly missed by us all.

Ron served his country from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Their mission at that time was to protect the United States from any possible threat of attack or invasion by the Russian forces.

Ron was best known for his longtime occupation as a Cook Coffee Company route salesman. He also worked at Big C Lumber from 1987 to 1995, then at the Meijer Store on Portage Road, South Bend, from 1995 until this past January.

He always got a kick when old customers from the route days would surprise him by remembering his name. Ron was an avid reader, always enjoying a good mystery. And he never missed his daily newspaper. He was also a loyal Notre Dame football fan and most definitely a Cubs fan, enjoying this season in particular. He enjoyed Tuesday meetings with his friends at the Second Wind Group and on a sunny day could often be found reading his paper and feeding the ducks at the Leeper Park pond.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. this Thursday, May 1st, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Road. Services will follow at 6:15 p.m., with Rev. Dustin Smith officiating. Please consider making a memorial contribution to the American Lung Association. The family would also like to thank the caring staff at the Waterford at Edison Lakes for making him feel so welcome. E-mail condolences may be made at welshfh@yahoo.com.
