CECELIA A. (BYSTRY) SWANSON

SOUTH BEND - Cecelia A. Swanson, 81, passed away at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend. She was born on October 18, 1926, in South Bend, to Theodore and Michaelina (Wroblewski) Bystry, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with her parents, one brother, Joseph, preceded her in death.

Cecelia graduated from Central High School in 1945.

Mrs. Swanson retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation as the bookkeeper for LaSalle High School in 1995 after 29 years of work in the bookstore and helping with basketball tickets and many programs at the school.

On July 7, 1946, she married Berger H. Swanson in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, South Bend, IN. After 59 years of marriage, he died July 9, 2005. She is survived by one daughter, Ann Marie (Fred) Dean of Granger, IN: one son, Kenneth J. Swanson of South Bend, IN, and one granddaughter, Emily Dean of Chicago, IL.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Funeral services for Cecelia will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008, in the funeral home, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.

Mrs. Swanson had been a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Embroidery Guild of Saint Joseph County. Her needlepoint talents helped create the communion chair rail pillows and the cushions for the altar chairs at the church. She was one of the first employees of the Teachers Credit Union while she attended Central High School. Her lifelong dedication to bookkeeping gave her the opportunity to help open the LaSalle High School Bookstore.

Her family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the administration and the staff of Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, especially to the nurses and staff on West 1 and also to the activity ladies who always made sure she went to all those special events. The family would also like to thank her physicians, Ana S. Cardenas M.D. and Dr. Moore from Healthwin for their devotion and care, and to Father Ron Tripi for his prayers and Mass at her death.
