CHARLES W. RAY

SOUTH BEND - Charles W. Ray, 85, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010, in the Morningcrest Nursing Home. Charles was born September 7, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Reba (Willard) and Charles J. Ray, and was a lifetime area resident.
On May 23, 1947, in South Bend, he married Barbara Johnson Ray, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Ritchie (Dale) of Marcellus, MI, and Kathryn LaMarche (Joseph) of Valparaiso, IN; four grandchildren, Erin and Noelle Maure of Mishawaka, IN, Ryan Maure (Jennifer) of Granger, IN, and Heather Newman (Dax) of Mt. Vernon, IN; and five great-grandchildren, Paxton, Eric, Morgan, Madison and Mariah.
Charles attended Central High School until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1945. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Charles completed his high school education. During his career, Charles was employed at the Pennsylvania Railroad, Studebaker Corporation, and as a supervisor of quality control at the AM General Corporation from where he retired. He was a member of former South Bend Lodge #294 F&AM and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31st, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Dec. 30th, from 4 unto 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 601 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
