Aloysius T. "Ollie" Niespodziany

June 17, 1924 - Mar. 25, 2009 SOUTH BEND - Aloysius T. "Ollie" Niespodziany, 84, formerly of Western Avenue, South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday March 25, 2009, in the Sanctuary of Saint Joseph, South Bend. He was born on June 17, 1924, in South Bend, to the late Clem and Martha (Cwiklinski) Niespodziany, and was a lifelong area resident. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Niespodziany and his aunt, Cecelia Cwiklinski, who raised him.

Ollie is survived by his first cousins, Theresa (Tom) Fisher of Port Clinton, OH and their children, Hildegarde Lisecki of Mobile, AL and her family; second cousins, Eileen Alwine of Osceola, IN and her children, Janice (Guy) Chapman and their children, Susan Maggio of South Bend and her children; and many other cousins.

He attended St. Hedwig Grade School and then Central High School in South Bend.

Ollie enlisted in the Army and served his country proudly for 22 months in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, where he was a heavy truck driver. He was a parishioner of St. Hedwig Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post #357, South Bend. Ollie helped anyone who needed help and had a smart wit. He loved to cook and play poker. He also loved children, always having a train around the Christmas tree for them to enjoy.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday March 28, 2009, in St. Hedwig Church, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ollie's name to Hello Gorgeous of Hope, Inc., 1130 E. Altgeld St., South Bend, IN 46614 or to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 3408 Ardmore Trail, South Bend, IN 46628.
