SANDRA L. (SZALAI) NEWMAN

Sandra L. Newman July 25, 1942 - May 12, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Sandra L. Newman, 71, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2014, surrounded by her children at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on July 25, 1942, in South Bend, to the late Michael and Virginia (Wroblewski) Szalai.

She graduated from South Bend Central High School, worked for many years at Carlyle Nursing Home, but retired from South Bend Community School Corporation where she worked as a Food Service Provider.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Dawn Newman-Smeltzer of New Carlisle, IN; two sons, James and Michael Newman, both of South Bend; 9 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren; and by five brothers, Rudolph (Rita) Szalai, Brian Szalai and Timothy (Debbie) Szalai, all of South Bend, Randolph (Dawn) Szalai of Edwardsburg, MI and Quinn (Joanie) Szalai of South Bend.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Michaeleen Szalai.

Sandra enjoyed gardening, crocheting and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cremation will take place and there will be a celebration of her life event held at a later date, as she wished. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart/Stroke Association. To send online condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com.
