CARMEN L. (TROEGER) MITCHELL

SOUTH BEND - Carmen L. Mitchell, 98, of River Park-South Bend passed away at 4:00 PM Saturday, June 5, 2010 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN. She was born on December 23, 1911 in South Bend, IN to Christopher J. and Emma L. (Hedman) Troeger and has remained a lifelong resident.

On August 31, 1935 in South Bend, IN she married Robert T. Mitchell who preceded her in death on August 1, 2004. Carmen is survived by her daughter, Sandra (James) Heffner of Kalamazoo; her son, Larry R. (Mary Ellen) Mitchell of Granger; four grandchildren, Julie and Terry Oldman of Granger, Ted and Shela Mitchell of South Bend, Jim and Wendy Heffner of Kalamazoo, and Dave and Diane Heffner of Ann Arbor, MI; & 7 great grandchildren, Matthew Oldman, Corey Mitchell, Chris Hurlbutt, T.J. Heffner, Sawyer Heffner, Delaney Heffner and Nathan Heffner.

Carmen was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Carmen was a lifelong member of River Park United Methodist Church, South Bend.

She graduated from South Bend Central High School.

She enjoyed sewing and was a wonderful seamstress.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Noon Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend. Rev. Thomas Thews, pastor of River Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until time of services on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Hospital, 702 Barnhill Drive, Room 5900, Indianapolis, IN 46202-2189 or River Park United Methodist Church, 920 S. 23rd Street, South Bend, IN 46615.
