JOHN MELSER OBITUARY

John H. Melser Aug. 27, 1924 - Aug. 28, 2014 SOUTH BEND - John H. Melser, 90, of South Bend, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 28, 2014 with his family by his side. John was born August 27, 1924 in South Bend to the late Floyd and Helen (Erickson) Melser.

On December 16, 1945 he married the former Berniece Cornwell who survives to cherish his memory along with a daughter, Sandy Terlisner (Richard) of South Bend and sons, Ron Melser (Kathline) of Mishawaka and Jim Melser (Jackie) of South Bend. John has 6 grandchildren, Lori Ruthruff (Travis), John Skelton (Anne), Ron Melser, Jr. (Christi), Dawn Gieger (Mike), Tony and Jamie Melser; and 5 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Shad, Tyler, Drew and Taylor. John is also survived by his siblings, Dick Melser of Mishawaka and Floyd of Lansing, MI.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Melser.

John was a graduate of South Bend Central High School, Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a survivor of the Battle of The Bulge in WW II. After his service he worked for the Studebaker Corp. and was a Security Guard for Arm Services. John was a lifetime member of VFW Post 360 who enjoyed fishing and other activities.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Committal service with Military Honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
