SOUTH BEND - Dorothy Lovings, 89, passed away in the Center for Hospice Care on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at 2:50 p.m. surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on February 28, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Edna (Scott) and Percy Dawson.

She attended South Bend Central High School and had lived her entire life in South Bend.

On August 26, 1941, she married William "Buster" Lovings, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Brenda Lovings, her sister, Goldie Ivory, and her brother, Elmer Carr.

Survivors include; sons, Dean and Craig Lovings, all of South Bend; five grandchildren, Angela Winston, Tanya Lovings, James (Mirella) Riley, Craig Lovings Jr. and Deanna Lovings; nine great-grandchildren, Brendan, Bryan, Kailin, Jasmine, Naya, Justice, Joshua, Janae and Talina; and two great-great-grandchildren, Breanna and Sincere. She leaves behind a host of other family members and friends.

Dorothy was a member of First A.M.E. Zion Church. She retired from Jefferson School as a paraprofessional. She loved working on cross-word puzzles and was a collector of salt and pepper shakers. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who will be deeply missed, fondly remembered and never forgotten.

Services for Mrs. Dorothy Lovings will be held Friday, August 6, 2010, in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 24393 Fillmore Road, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow funeral service at Highland Cemetery. Sign her guestbook at www.clarkoneal.com.
