SOUTH BEND - Alvin "Al" D. Levy, 60, of South Bend, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011, in his home. He was born November 18, 1951, in South Bend, to Frank S. and Mattie M. (Sims) Levy, who preceded him in death, and a brother, James Levy (deceased).

Surviving are a son, Vaughn (Rebecca) Levy of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Mayah, Leah, Aileen and Shaughn of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Claudette and Rita Levy, both of South Bend; five brothers, Alfred L. Levy and Howard E. (Jewel) Levy of South Bend, Carl I. Levy of Dallas, Texas, Frank S. (Patricia) Levy and Harold L. (Antonia) Levy of Waldorf, Maryland; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins; and a dear friend, Mrs. Maxine Ellison, South Bend, and a host of friends.

Alvin retired from the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant after serving six years active duty and 20 years in the Air Force Reserves.

Alvin worked for the South Bend Community School Corporation, Cole and Associates, Weaver Boos & Gordon of Michiana, Goodwill Industries, and First Presbyterian Church.

Cremation and Interment have taken place at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana. Memorial service will be held at 11 am Friday, January 13, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main St., South Bend, followed by full military honors. Al was a graduate of South Bend Central High School where he served as the school "bear" mascot. Al was a member of First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Alvin, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the "Stone Soup Community," c/o First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main St., South Bend.
