ANDREW N. KRAMER

Andrew N. Kramer Dec. 6, 1925 - Aug. 29, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Andrew N. "Tip" Kramer, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:00 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014, at Sunset House, Mishawaka, IN. He was born on Dec. 6, 1925, in South Bend, IN, one of ten children, to the late Andrew and Mary (Horwarth) Kramer.

He was united in marriage on August 20, 1949, in South Bend, IN, to the former Marjorie Owen, who preceded him in death on June 28, 1991.

Mr. Kramer is survived by two daughters, Susan (Tom) Schramm and Mary Barbara Williams, both of South Bend, IN; son, Andrew (Kathleen) Kramer of Appleton, WI; four grandchildren, Todd (Amanda) Miller of Mooresville, IN, Heather (Bill) Schwertfeger of Downers Grove, IL, Rebecca Kramer of Appleton, WI, and Ryan Williams of South Bend, IN; three great- grandchildren; his sweetheart of many years, Jan Wodrich of South Bend, IN, and her family who treated dad like their own; sister, Agnes Monhaut of South Bend, IN; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie Kramer; five sisters, Betty Horvath, Marie Armstrong, Frances Prusinski, Rose Wisniewski and Kathryn Pozsik; and three brothers, John, Leo and Joseph Kramer.

Mr. Kramer was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Central High School and Central Michigan College.

He started his career at Radio Equipment managing the service department. He was one of the first board certified television and radio service technicians from 1960-1980. If you needed service on your stereo, radio or TV, our father probably came on Saturday morning with his tool box filled with tubes and his magic demagnetizer to fine tune the color.

He served his country honorably in the South Pacific, in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Philippines. He remembers celebrating the announcement of the end of the war in 1945 with his mates with beer, music and dancing.

He worked in maintenance for the South Bend Community School Corporation, retiring in 1987 after twelve years of service. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #357. Mr. Kramer was an avid golfer and a dedicated Notre Dame fan. He loved the Big Band Era and many nights he took his sweetheart dancing at the local Eagles, Moose and American Legion. After his retirement, he enjoyed winters in Tarpon Springs, FL, to feel the sun on his face. He was a sentimental man, always adding his own personal heartfelt touch to every card he signed.

A special thanks to Abby, his nurse, and Karen, his social worker at the Center for Hospice of South Bend, for their excellent care and tenderness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN.
