SOUTH BEND - Carol Jean Seward, 60, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011, in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in South Bend, IN, on October 17, 1950, to the union of Callena and James Seward Sr.

She attended Linden Elementary School and graduated from Central High School.

She was a Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed spending time with her family, playing softball and going to the casino.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Callena Seward-Irby; stepfather, Archie Irby; siblings, Jerome D. (Diane) Seward, James (Jennifer) Seward, Elaine Seward, Marilyn Seward, Ronnie E. Seward, Jackie Erby, Ricky (Kimberly) Erby, Bernard (Debra) Irby, Debra Givens, Carmen Seward, Lisa Ellis, Carmen Seward, Victor Seward, Geraldine Irby and Derrick Irby; two sons, Marvin James and Jason Seward; five grandchildren; one aunt, Helen (J.R.) Purchas; a special cousin, James Higgs; a special friend, Don Shock; along with a host of other family and friends.

Family members preceding her in death were her father, James Seward Sr.; two grandmothers, Viola Seward and Rosetta Shine; one aunt, Willie V. Davis; two uncles, Otis Seward and Entee Shine; and one brother, Keith Seward.

Services for Ms. Carol Jean Seward will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, Inc., 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., with funeral services at noon. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visit www.clarkoneal.com to sign her guestbook.
