Theola Brown (Hollis) - Class Of 1938 VIEW PROFILE

THEOLA (BROWN) HOLLIS

Theola Hollis, 94, of Lansing, Michigan, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Mrs. Hollis, the daughter of Preston and Minnie Hawks Brown, was born August 9, 1919, in Calvin Center, Michigan.

She lived in South Bend, Indiana, with her paternal aunt, Lucy Huggard, attended the South Bend Public Schools and graduated from Central High School.

She married Oren Chavous, in September 1936; he preceded her in death, in July 1942. She later met and married Charles Hollis, in May 1951. She was a member of Olivet African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Bend, Indiana. She later moved to Lansing in 1993, and joined Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was employed by CTS Electronics of Elkhart, Indiana, until her retirement in 1985.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Charles Hollis, April 1987, her son, Phil Chavous, December 1960, brothers, Granville Brown, Preston Brown, Jr., sister, Doris Brown Steele.

Survivors include: daughter, Attorney Norma J. Fleming, Lansing, granddaughters, Doctor Dawn E. Fleming, DDS, Lansing, Kim Brantley, South Bend, Debra Fleming, Nashville, Tennessee, four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: after 3:00 p.m., Thursday, Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church, 3500 West Holmes Road, Lansing, Michigan. Funeral Service: 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church, Reverend Lilla Martin, Officiating.
