Martha Holloway (Hetterson) - Class Of 1957 VIEW PROFILE

MARTHA (HOLLOWAY) HETTERSON

July 24, 1939 - July 17, 2007
SOUTH BEND - Martha Hetterson, 67, died on July 17, 2007, in Holy Cross Long Term Care & Rehabilitation Center, after a brave battle with breast cancer. Martha was born in Eudora, Arkansas, and had lived most of her life in South Bend. Anyone who ever had contact with her will remember her gentle and gracious spirit. She cherished her faith in God, loved her family and friends, and adored her grandsons. She also had a special fondness for shopping and, of course, playing her "lucky" lottery numbers. For many years she was a teacher with the Head Start Program, and later she worked for Sears as a sales representative. She eventually retired from Sears.

She was a graduate of South Bend Central High School.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charley Hetterson. She leaves behind three children, Rodney Hetterson of South Bend, Rachelle Hetterson of Virginia Beach, VA, and Ronda Hetterson of Springfield, VA. Other survivors include her brother, Bruce Holloway; a sister-in-law, Saundra Hetteson; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Hetteson; grandsons, Kojo, Kweku and Kofi Pumpuni; a son-in-law, Charles Pumpuni; cousins, the Bishop family and the Davis family; godmother, Naomi Smiley; a godson, Arrian Bobbitt; and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dellar Holloway. Services will be at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church today, July 24, at 11 a.m., where she was a lifelong member.

The visitation was on Monday, July 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alford's Mortuary. Her wonderful laugh brought so much joy; she will be greatly missed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.

Published by South Bend Tribune from Jul. 23 to Jul. 24, 2007.
