Anton Hartman - Class Of 1944 VIEW PROFILE

 

ANTON HARTMAN

Aug. 22, 1926 - June 27, 2010
IRON RIVER, MI - Tony Hartman of Iron River Michigan has left us after a lengthy illness. He leaves behind is his loving wife, Mary of 45 years, sons Gary, Todd, Joseph and 5 grandchildren. Tony was preceded in death by another son Clark. Being the sixth of seven siblings he was born in 1936 to Joseph and Mary Hartman of Liston street in South Bend whom had immigrated to the United States from Hungary around the time of the first World War. His mother died at an early age leaving it up to Tony's older sisters Mary, Irene and Betty to help raise the 3 boys and another sister, Elsie.

Tony attended Linden grade school and South Bend Central high school. Tony had fond memories of Central high school where he was a member of the swim team.

In 1959 he entered the army and was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia as a Private First class mechanic. After basic training he spent the rest of his enlistment in Germany where during his leave time he learned to ski and enjoyed the siteseeing. After his enlistment in the armed services Tony came back to Indiana and worked for South Bend Lathe for 40 years as a machinist, assembler. Tony was a member of the VFW with many friends at post 2284 in Edwardsburg, Michigan.

Tony retired from the 'Lathe Works' in 1997 and afterwords with His wife Mary they moved to Michigan's upper peninsula. He was an avid outdoorsman spending many hours fishing and hunting with his family and two brothers Joseph and Frank. While in the Upper Penninsula he became a member of the George Young sports center. At the George Young sports center he once again took up golf, playing for many hours with his friends. A further notice will be given for the date and time of services for Mr. Hartman.
