VICTOR S. GLASSBURN

April 28, 1929 - Oct. 24, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Victor Samuel Glassburn, 80, of South Bend, passed away on October 24, 2009, in his home. He was born on April 28, 1929, in South Bend, to the late Samuel and Violet (Brothers) Glassburn, and was a lifetime area resident.

On December 28, 1946, in South Bend, Victor married Betty J. Wertz. This December they would have celebrated 63 years of marriage. Betty survives along with two daughters, Judy (Michael) Fye and Susan (Tim) Sarvari, both of South Bend; three sons, Gary (Kristine) Glassburn and Mark (Nancy) Glassburn, both of South Bend, and Greg (Lisa) Glassburn of Plymouth, IN; 13 grandchildren, Eric, Michelle, Jamie, Stacey, Mike, Andrea, Matthew, Ryan, Timothy, Amanda, Zachary, Mitchell and Katelyn; 10 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lyndee, Brieann, Iliana, Tiegan, Timmy, Phillip, Max, Taylor and Madison; five sisters, Christine Glassburn of North Liberty, IN, Gail Glassburn of Mishawaka, IN, Eva Rogers and Violet McKenna, both of Knox, IN, and Nancy (Gary) Strong of Plymouth; one brother, Roy (Helen) Glassburn of Russiaville, IN; and his best buddy, his dog Ty.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sharp, and three brothers, Vern L., Ralph H. and Jerry Glassburn.

Victor attended the former Central High School.

He was an operations manager, retiring from Bendix Trucking. In his early years he loved to hunt rabbit and duck. He was a member of South Bend Turners where he once bowled 11 strikes in a row. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Victor also enjoyed playing golf with many of his old buddies. In his more relaxed years, he looked so forward to a day of fishing, usually being the one who caught the most and largest fish. Everyone has always cherished the memories of the many summers we vacationed in Michigan at Little Pleasant Lake. It was always understood just how important his family was to him. Victor had a keen sense of humor and loved to tease all the kids. A man of few words, we all knew how much he loved us and how very much he loved his wife. Victor will be deeply missed by all but will remain in our hearts forever. Being the husband, dad, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend that he was, we know he is only leading the way so we all have a road to follow.

A celebration of Victor's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 29th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., with Rev. Don Neely of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 28th, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at welshfh@yahoo.com.
