MARY L. FREIENSTEIN

SOUTH BEND - Mary L. Freienstein, 90, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 5:50 PM Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Hearth of Juday Creek, Granger. Mary was born on February 23, 1923 in Mishawaka to the late John P. and Agnes H. (Code) Freienstein and has remained a lifelong resident of this area.

She was a 1941 graduate of South Bend Central High School.

Mary worked for 43 years at the Uniroyal Corporation as Administrative Assistant Secretary to the Controller, retiring in 1985. She attended St. Anthony de Padua Church and was faithfully devoted to the Legion of Mary. The joy of her life was traveling and spending time with her family. Mary was also actively involved in the Forever Learning Institute and was an avid gardener.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Margaret A. Shingledecker on August 11, 1999; and her brother, John P. Freienstein OFM Cap on December 11, 1998.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Ann Harper of Mishawaka; and ten nieces and nephews, John (Martha) Harper, Benjamin Harper, Ruth Harper, Alicia (Kevin) MacIsaac, Kathy (Jeff) Hull, David (Eileen) Shingledecker, Patty (Dave) Bolhuis, Nancy (Rick) Evans, Gary (Tammy) Shingledecker, and Margaret (Scott) Kron.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at St. Anthony de Padua Church, 2120 E. Jefferson, South Bend. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may gather with the family on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend with a Rosary Service at 5:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice. Palmer Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
