SOUTH BEND - Guy Roderick Cressy, 72, passed away at 2:05 a.m., Monday, May 17, 2021 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born July 17, 1948 in South Bend to the late Robert and Dorothy (Williams) Cressy and remained a lifelong area resident.

Guy graduated from Central High School and then served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1967-1971. During his time in the service, he was a crew chief, working on jet planes, and was a member of the Strategic Air Command.

On July 18, 1970 in South Bend, Guy married the former Martha Roe, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, he is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Cressy of Mishawaka and Amy Cressy of South Bend; and son, Matthew Cressy of Spartanburg, SC. He was preceded in death by sisters, Joanne Roe and Cathy Lovitt, as well as his brother, Thomas Cressy.

Upon his discharge from the Air Force, Guy began his career as a plumber / pipefitter with UA Local Union #172, of which he was a member for 45 years prior to retirement. He was also a member of the American Legion #357. Guy was proud to be a lifelong democrat and an eye donor. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly fishing. He also enjoyed going to health clubs and casinos. Guy and Martha travelled a lot during their marriage, and cruises were one of his favorites. He also attended many concerts, of which his favorite was the Eagles. In his down time, Guy enjoyed watching TV and movies, listening to music and spending time at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes at the University of Notre Dame, due to his special devotion to the Blessed Mother.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, May 21, 2021 in Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. Graveside services and burial with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to mass on Friday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Guy may be donated to the Northern Indiana Food Bank, 702 Chapin Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
