ELSIE (CHALFANTS) BAUER

Elsie V. Bauer Valparaiso Elsie V. Bauer, age 85, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away Monday, December 11, 2006 at Whispering Pines. She was born March 30,1921 in Griffith, IN, the daughter of Harry and Vera (Werling) Chalfants. She received her B.A. and M.A. in Education from Indiana University where she belonged to Alpha Omicrom Pi Sorority.

She taught at South Bend Central High School and Wheeler High School before serving as a Professor for over 20 years at Valparaiso University where she was also honored at their Athletic Hall of Fame.

On May 19,1972 she married Emory Bauer who preceded her in death in 1989. Survivors include her two sons: James C. (Pamela) Lampl of LaPorte, IN, and Michael J. Lampl of Farmland, IN; two step-daughters: Susan (Charles) Furman of Valparaiso, IN, and Jane (James) Craver of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren: Johnny and Mary Lampl; six step-grandchildren: Shannon Chafin, Ty Craver, Peggy and Andy Eastmond and Tracy and Chad Furman. Also preceded in death by her parents; step-daughter, Linda Eastmond and first husband, John Lampl.

A visitation will be held Wednesday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, All Saints Chapel. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the church with Rev.
