JOHN R. BADRY

Nov. 25, 1930 - Sept. 3, 2013
MISHAWAKA - John Richard (Dick) Badry passed away on September 3rd at 12:53 am from natural causes. Dick was born to John Al and Pauline Badry in Aurora, Illinois, and was raised in Goshen, IN. He graduated in 1948 from Goshen High school, and earned a Bachelors degree in teaching from Ball State Teachers College, and a Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University.

He began his career teaching History and French at Mishawaka High School (1961-1965). He then went to IU Bloomington to pursue his Masters Degree, and returned to the area to restart his teaching career at South Bend Central High School (1968-1973), Penn High School (1974), and at Mishawaka High Schoo (1975-1998). His devotion to the students and athletes at Mishawaka High School was unprecedented, as he volunteered his time for over 38 years in the athletic department. He was a longtime football announcer, boys and girls basketball score-book keeper, and track and field worker.

One of his proudest moments in his life came last Spring when he was inducted into the Mishawaka High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He also sponsored the French Club at MHS. He was a devoted member of The First Presbyterian Church of Mishawaka where he served as a Deacon and was Head Usher for several years. He truly missed his church family after he moved to Peru. Several church members kept in contact and he was very grateful for their friendship.

Dick is survived by a son, Greg (Lori) of Peru, IN, and a daughter, Jennifer (Perry Jones) of Key West, FL. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Erin Clemons (Ernie) of Noblesville, IN, and Ellyn Badry of Peru, IN, and one grandson, Isaac Badry of Peru, IN. He is also survived by friend Jean Badry of Peru, IN.

The family has had a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Deacons Kids Christmas Shopping Program. The shopping program was his favorite charity. Memorial donations may also be made to the Mishawaka High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Arrangements entrusted to Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru, IN.
