SOUTH BEND - Theodore O. Anderson, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 6:35 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. He was 97 years old. He was born April 26, 1911, in South Bend, the son of Charles and Katrine (Peterson) Anderson.

He graduated from South Bend's Central High School.

He was employed as quality control supervisor with the Bendix Corp. for 35 years, and retired in 1974. He was a longtime member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, a 50-year member of the former South Bend Lodge #294 F.&AM, where he was Past Master and chaplain, a member of St. Joseph Lodge #45, F.&AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, where he received the MSA (Meritorious Service Award), Orak Shrine of Michigan City, and Order of Eastern Star Chapter #569. He was also an active member of the former Avalon Grotto, the Tuxedo Patrol, and assisted in driving children to the Shrine Hospital in Cincinnati and Chicago.

In May 1948, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Weaver, who preceded him in death on July 24, 1996. A sister, Ruth Kohli, and five brothers, Richard, Phillip, Robert, Leroy and Harry Anderson, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his niece and her husband, Beverly and Paul Davis of South Bend, who were very close with Ted; two daughters, Phyllis Jean Calloway of Oceanridge, FL, and Debbie (Charles) Giszewski of Spencerville, IN; and his son, Dennis Anderson of Rockwell, TX. Five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren survive Ted as well as a nephew, Carl Anderson of Waterville, OH, another niece, Mary Katherine Wilson of Springhill, FL, and a host of friends and neighbors who loved Ted very much.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. James B. Miller will officiate. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, where members of St. Joseph Lodge #45 F&AM will conduct a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Anderson may be made to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 South Frances St., South Bend, IN 46615; or to the Shrine Hospital for Children, Chicago Unit, 2211 North Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60707-3392.
