James Whitney Godfrey - Class Of 1960 VIEW PROFILE

James Whitney Godfrey Sr.

Jun. 4, 1942 – May 26, 2001

James W. Godfrey, 58, residing on S.R. 23, Granger, IN, passed away at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

He was a self-employed truck driver. Mr. Godfrey was born June 4, 1942, in Benton Harbor, MI., to Whitney Andrew and Margaret (Ziegert) Godfrey.

On December 18, 1965, in South Bend he married Judith A. Wooldridge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Judy Godfrey: two sons, James Thomas Godfrey of South Bend and Andrew Whitney (Dannielle) Godfrey of South Bend; six grandchildren, Kayla & Joseph Godfrey, Alec & Alissa Godfrey, Andrew Tirotta and Sommar Godfrey; and one sister, Carol Godfrey of Mishawaka.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Joseph Novotny.

Mr. Godfrey served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Crisis and was a member of  the American Legion Post 365, Edwardsburg, Michigan.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 1, 2001 at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Rev. Don Francis will officiate. There will be no visitation. Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend is handling arrangements.

Contributions in memory of James W. Godfrey may be given to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 and to Harris Township Fire Department, 13981 S. R. 23, Granger, IN 46530.
