SOUTH BEND Chester H. "Whitey" Szymczak, 75, of Crumstown Highway, South Bend, Ind., died on Friday,.1 Jan. 23, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Szymczak was bom on July 26, 1922, In South Bend to Casimer and Laura (Jaworski) Szymczak.

He retired in 1985, from Preston Tracking Co.

On Oct. 17, 1945, in South Bend, he married the former. Beatrice Gember, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Kathleen (John) Meyers of South Bend; three sons, Dave (Mary) Szymczak of South Bend, Paul (Sue) Szymczak . of Westvllle, Ind., and Robert (Debra) Szymczak oK Westminister, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Lynn (Marion) Kasznia of South - Bend, Sherri (Jim) Schwartz of Indianapolis, Ind., Amy Szymczak of Westville, Paul Szymczak of Westville, Angela Meyers of South Bend, Sarah Meyers of South Bend and James Robert Szymczak of Westminister; three great-grand- children, Austin Schwartz, Samantha Schwartz and Quinn Kasznia; and by two brothers,, Roman and Eugene Szymczak of South Bend.

He was preceded in death, by two brothers, Walter and Richard.

Mr. Szymczak was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Holy Family Ushers Club, American Legion Post 284 and a World War II Army veteran. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Kanlewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Military services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in Holy Family Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Building Fund.
