Edward J. Summers Jr.

SOUTH BEND — Edward J. Summers Jr., 72, of East Jefferson Square, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday in Healthwin Hospital. Mr. Summers retired from Bendix Corp. in 1976 after 30 years of service. He was born Oct. 11, 1921, in South Bend, and was a lifetime area resident.

On Jan. 12, 1946, in South Bend, he married Irene Szabo. She survives with three sons, Frank and Edward III, both of South Bend, and Patrick of Lakewood, Colo.; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Gertrude Bednar of Ann Arbor and Rebecca Ricke of Sacramento, Calif.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Private services will be Monday at Highland Cemetery Mausoleum. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
